Occasionally you see something that stops you in your tracks. You look at it in awe and it can take you away to somewhere else. I love water, the fluid way it moves and the differing colours, images and reflections you can get from it.
Kawarabayashi creates the image of water beautifully with the simplest of materials and elegant lighting. Here we see her using translucent linen hung from a ceiling , the ruffles of the material creating the effect of rivulets of water trickling, or of pendulous rain clouds. The light on the highly polished floor gives the effect of sun light in a lake.
It’s so simple in its eloquence.
Kawarabayashi is a textile artist and uses all manner of materials to create all manner of beautiful structures and installations. Her work is not widely publicised around Europe, but if you can get to view some of her work it is well worth a look… or at least a google search.
