Tucked away on the second floor of the Rotterdam natural history museum, is an art exhibit by Raoul Deleo. This seems like a really odd place to have this type of display, as it’s neither natural or truly historical, but none the less, this is an amazing world created by wondrous mind.
‘During the last ten years, Raoul Deleo, discovered and explored an uncharted part of the earth. His findings were added to a still growing collection of illustrations and objects. All of them bare witness of the discovery of a continent so large, rich and diverse in vegetation and wildlife, that it remains a mystery why is has never been discovered before. The continent and the collection is called Terra Ultima. The edge of the world.’
Nothing could explain the art work better than the words on the artist’s own website. This is a fantastical world is full of hybrid animals, which have been beautifully painted, with feathers or scales added to the paintings in an effort to bring the make believe world to life.
Pages of explorers note books are on display, like field notes…
A range of ceramic skulls and fossils have also been created to throw you in to the world of Terra Ultima.
The creature mash ups are amazing. Truly beautiful work from an explorative mind.

Thank you, Widowcranky, for a wonderful post about my exhibition on your most interesting blog.
The title of the black and white drawing is complicated and long (I’m sorry) but should be “Trophic interaction within a single tree community”. (^_^) Lots of success with your blog. I will return once in a while and enjoy your captivating posts!
