The Liebster Award – Nomination

As I type this I have my black cat suit on, my hair in an updo and my make-up blended to an inch of its life, as I eagerly await to see what happens, tissues at the ready should I have to make a gushing acceptance speech.  Ok, I am not, I am sat on my sofa feeling very chuffed that someone has enjoyed my blog enough to want to nominate me for this, and I feel very honoured.

Firstly I have to say very big thank you to Jane Gealy for nominating me.  I always find it so inspiring when someone enjoys my blog that they get in touch, so this is a real thrill.  I do have to say Jane’s blog is wonderfully funny and I would recommend anyone having a little nose through her posts.

What is the Liebster Award?

This is an award for new and old bloggers alike to get some recognition and interact with the blogging community.

So what are the rules?

  1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated your blog.
  2. Answer the questions.
  3. Nominate 11 other new bloggers to encourage them.
  4. Ask them 11 questions
  5. Let them know you have nominated them.

Questions that Jane asked and my answers:-

Describe yourself in five words.

Eccentric, eclectic, blunt, onionesque (I know I made that one up, but I am hoping you get the idea) and passionate.

What is the scariest thing you’ve ever done.

I don’t really find that much particularly scary… except heights and spiders, although I have a bit of a morbid fascination with spiders as I think they are infinitely interesting.  I think possibly putting my writing on show for people to critique and react to.  It can be quite daunting when you have no confidence in an element of yourself to display it so publically.

What is your favourite quote?

I do really love the wit of the infamous Winston Churchill, and some of his insults, while cutting were truly funny.  While this is one of those, it does serve to remind me not to judge too quickly as you don’t know what will come back and bite you.

“I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I will be sober and you will still be ugly.”
Where is your happy place?

I love being at sea or being near water.  I find it particularly tranquil and you can take some amazing pictures.  This said… I don’t like beaches… sand is not my thing.

What’s on your bucket list?

I would love to see the cherry blossom festival in Japan.  I have been fascinated by the Japanese culture for a long time so this is one of my must.

What is your favourite time of the year?

I adore the start of autumn, as the flowers start to fade and the leaves start to turn.  Its not freezing cold, but it’s not too hot.  The world becomes like an artists pallet.  It’s vibrant and the evenings drawing in brings an amazing light which enhances the colours around us.  It also is a really good excuse to get the slow cooker out and make all sorts of comfort food.

If you had all the money in the world, what would you do?

I think I would ensure that my family and friends were settled, happy and cared for.  I would then look to help others less fortunate, and maybe by a few bespoke pieces of art for myself.  I am not the most materialistic person…but I might treat myself to a Bugatti Veyron as well.

Who in your family are you most like?

Definitely my Dad.  We have the same sense of humour and beard (I jest… I shave it off).  He has a hidden artistic flare that he doesn’t embrace as much as I do.

What is the most extreme thing you’ve ever done?

This is a really tough one to answer as I don’t really see anything as extreme.  Life is for living and getting the most out of, it’s not a dress rehearsal so I would encourage anyone to try things at least once.

What is your biggest achievement?

I think being able to fairly successfully adult, despite not feeling old enough to do so and knowing I am definitely old enough to probably be doing it slightly better than I am.  Aside from that, I do have a degree, I have a pretty good job, I have successfully avoided having children and am now verging on too old to have them to my mother’s disappointment, but to my joy.  I have travelled to nearly all the places I want to see, and I have been lucky enough to work in theatres and on stages, before settling in an IT job, so while none of these are 1 big achievement, I think I have a series of things that I am particularly proud of.

What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done?

I think, probably, passing out on the beach in Exmouth Devon and having to have two passing marines carry me home… the less said the better probably.

Now onto the fun stuff… 11 nominations:-

  1. “…It’s like a finger pointing away to the moon..”
  2. Single Mum’s blog about failing at life
  3. Artschaft
  4. An Anxious Gal
  5. No-Madder Nomadder
  6. The Semicolon
  7. M.C.Grimm
  8. Simply a subplot
  9. Brian Sostrom
  10. The Surrealist Junkie
  11. The Loyal Brit Wit

And 11 Questions…

  1. What inspires you?
  2. What what your favourite book growing up?
  3. Who is your favourite artist?
  4. What is something that has moved you deeply?
  5. What do you find truly funny?
  6. What is your favourite beverage…alcoholic or otherwise?
  7. Do you have a quirk?  If so what is it?
  8. Do you think you are an inspiration to others?
  9. Marmite… yes or no?
  10. If you could own anything, what would be your prized possession?
  11. What grinds your gears?

I don’t think that there is much more for me to say today, other than a big THANK YOU, and as this is a media blog, leave you with a little picture that I love by Jeff Soto.

  1. YES! YES! YES! Widowcranky likes me! Thank you for the nomination, I don’t know how I feel about the awards, but it was fun reading your answers. Plus, I might find some interesting blogs in your list of nominees.

I strongly sympathize with: “I think possibly putting my writing on show for people to critique and react to. It can be quite daunting when you have no confidence in an element of yourself to display it so publically.”

    1. Lol I didn’t realise I was so influential to you lol. I think your blog is insightful and brings some lesser known art works to the forefront, which is what I love! Despite how you feel about the award, it’s a great way to interact with people, so I would urge you to give it a bash… 😊 experience everything once…
